MARGARITA FONTÉ
PRODUCTION OF SMALL ANIMALS FOR SALE
LOCATION
Community: Pijal
Parish: Gonzalez Suarez
Canton: Otavalo
Province: Imbabura
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Produce chickens and guinea pigs for sale in the local market.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Build the necessary facilities for the animals.
Technically raise chickens and guinea pigs.
Generate economic income from the sale of animals.
GOALS
Construction of a 40 square meter shed.
90% of the animals are sold. We hope to have a maximum mortality rate of 10%.
The sale prices will be: chickens for $10 with an average weight of 2.5 kilos/2.5 months. Guinea pigs for $8 with an average weight of $1.5 kilos/3 months.
TERM
The project is scheduled to take 12 months, from the delivery of funds to payment. The design stage is not included in the timeframe.
PRODUCTION PROCESS
The animals will be fed 90% with seeds and grass collected in the area and 10% with growth and fattening feed. During the production period, Margarita and her family will be in charge of caring for them. The chickens will remain free on the land, while the guinea pigs will be kept in ponds where they will be separated by age, sex and color. Once the production cycle is over, the animals will be offered on the hoof or on the meat in the community or local market, to neighbors, friends and end consumers. On the other hand, the animals that do not reach the necessary weight and size will be consumed by the family.
FINANCING
The sources of funding for this project are: FEDICE $2000 through a reimbursable fund and Margarita $6200 distributed between investment, work and expenses. The table below presents the sources and uses of the resources.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Compliance with the proposed objectives will be verified through visits to the production site, where information will be collected in the form of videos, photographs and audios.
At the end of the project, we will apply a participatory evaluation to determine the success or failure of the project, for which we will evaluate the planned goals. In this same sense, we will measure the qualitative change in family well-being.
